The nucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1(ENPP1) rs997509 variant is strongly associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and impaired glucose tolerance in obese children and adolescents. This variant also drives the known association between the ENPP1 121Q variant and insulin resistance.
