Cover
Studies demonstrating higher pancreatic glucose uptake in patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes than healthy controls. MRI and [11C]methionine and [18F]FDG positron emission tomograpy images of the abdomen in a patient with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes. Red color indicates strong, green moderate, and blue weak trapping of the substrate, with color scales maximizing the contrast between tissues. The pancreas shows high [11C] methionine, but low [18F]FDG uptake. The red spot in the [18F]FDG image reflects high activity in the kidney, from which [18F]FDG is excreted to the urine. From the article by Kalliokoski et al., in this issue, pages 1909–1914.
