The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion was described in two infants with undetectable arginine vasopressin levels, but gain-of-function mutations in their V2 vasopressin receptors. The authors termed this newly characterized condition the "nephrogenic syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis."
