This issue of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology &
Metabolism contains a number of invited papers on topics that
concern Womens Health. The Associate Editors of JCE&M and
I have assembled these papers in response to a request from Kate
Horwitz, President of The Endocrine Society, who has proclaimed that
there will be a special focus on Womens Health at the Annual Meeting
of The Endocrine Society this June. The types of papers we solicited
for this issue are (1) Commentaries, personal statements by the authors
on the chosen topics; (2) Therapeutic Controversies, which assemble
short position statements made by experts on a controversial topic; (3)
Clinical Reviews, which are short, objective overviews; (4) Extensive
Personal Experience papers, which are more anecdotal presentations of
long experience in treating an endocrine disorder; (5) Profile of the
Endocrine Clinic, which provides an overview of the work of a large
endocrine center; and (6) Editorials, which are Commentaries
that reflect on Original Studies published in the same issue.
JCE&M plans to have a special focus on Mens Health in
October and on Pediatrics in December. The December issue will be my
last as Editor-in-Chief. I hope that our readers have enjoyed the
expanded focus on clinical medicine that our Board and the Society have
worked toward, and that these special issues will stimulate future
research and debate. I am happy to add that no accepted papers were
delayed by our publishing these invited contributions, and there is no
thought of changing the essential nature of the journal as primarily a
publisher of peer-reviewed Original Studies. \.
