INDUCED STEROIDOGENESIS AND LUTEOLYSIS IN THE PRIMATE CORPUS LUTEUMDepartment of Obstetrics and Gynecology Yale University School of Medicine New Haven, Connecticut 06510
In experiments designed to study the effect of prostaglandin F2
(PGF2
) on the primate corpus luteum, laparotomy was performed on monkeys, and the principal ovarian vein was cannulated for measurement of ovarian progesterone output and blood flow. Infusion of PGF2
in increasing doses revealed stimulation of progesterone production at low doses and inhibition at high doses. HCG, given intravenously, appeared to reverse the decrease in progesterone output. Within the limits of the method utilized, no effect on blood flow was observed in any of the experiments.
